Accord University

Accord University is a one-of-a-kind institution in Somalia and the East African region. Accord offers a world-class post-graduate education, delivered by qualified world-class lecturers.  Accord uses an online platform as its classroom to reach qualified students even those living or working in remote locations.

Somalia

Accord University is located in Somalia and was born out of the idea of making tertiary education affordable while keep a high quality.  Especially considering that Somalia is still recovering from the effects of the civil war.  Somalia has a poverty rate of 73% according to UNPS statistics.  After looking further into the situation we released the biggest gap in terms of tertiary education is in the area of post-graduate studies.  Somalia currently has plenty of universities providing undergraduate programs at reasonable prices.  The main difficulty we’ve seen is that students seeking a master’s degree have a lack of high-quality, low-cost options.  Somalia lacks universities that provide post-graduate programs, and those that do are expensive.  The other option is for students to go abroad to continue their studies after attaining a bachelor’s degree.  Both those options are not viable for the majority of the Somali population.  Accord University has been successful in providing high-quality, affordable education taught by a divers international faculty.

According to Worldometers, 46.8% of the Somali population lives in urban areas.  That leaves the majority of Somalis living in rural areas as of 2020.  Somalia is unique in that many rural villages/towns have internet access.  Accord University has taken advantage of this opportunity to reach those who are qualified whether working or living in urban or rural areas to have access to post-graduate education.  This is one of the many reasons why we operate in an online environment rather than a traditional classroom setting so that we can reach everyone who qualifies, regardless of their location.

Africa

Accord University’s vision is not limited to Somalia; rather, it aims to reach students across Africa, regardless of borders.  Accord currently has over ten students amongst its student body living in the neighboring countries in the East Africa region.

Africa holds a larger portion of the world’s natural resources.  According to the UNEP Africa is home to some 30% of the world’s mineral reserves, 8% of the world’s natural gas, and 12% of the world’s oil reserves. The continent has 40% of the world’s gold and up to 90% of its chromium and platinum. The largest reserves of cobalt, diamonds, platinum, and uranium in the world are in Africa. It holds 65% of the world’s arable land and ten percent of the planet’s internal renewable freshwater source.

Africa also has a young population.  According to the latest stats from Worldometers, the median age in Africa is 19.7 years of age.

According to the UN, about 60% of the population in Africa is under 25 years of age.  This makes it the youngest continent in terms of age in the world. This means that Africa has great potential for having a thriving labor/workforce.

Accord university wants to reach all people throughout Africa and equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to be productive citizens.  We wish to do our part in assisting Africa’s development.
